About the Author
Dave Ellis is a leadership coach, author, educator, and philanthropist. He is a respected lecturer and electrifying workshop leader who has captivated audiences worldwide since first sharing his principles in 1979. Ellis got started in education in 1976, when he taught junior high school math. After getting a master's degree in mathematics, he taught computer science for six years at National American University, where he became assistant dean of student services. In 1979, he designed a course to improve student retention and then traveled the country for a decade conducting workshops for teachers on ways to improve student retention and test scores. He began training coaches in 1983 and started a public course for coaches in 1993. The Essential Guide to Becoming a Master Student is based on Ellis's best-selling textbook, Becoming a Master Student. He puts into practice the principles he teaches, utilizing his remarkable system in his own life. His friends and colleagues often describe him as the happiest person they know with an amazingly wonderful life. He is president of Breakthrough Enterprises, a publishing and consulting company. Ehh...

First off, and most importantly, I wouldn't rent this as an E-Book if at all possible, ESPECIALLY if you're using it for a class. There are a lot of exercises on the book that require you to write inside the book itself, and having to print out a page, or find some way to get around not being able to physically manipulate the text is frustrating. Get the physical copy if you can.

Second of all, the book itself is pretty pointless if you have a good sense of self-awareness. For the everyday individual, most of this is common knowledge and this book ends up being little more than pages of busy work with only the occasional spark that comes with finding something new. Considering that this book is almost 80 dollars to buy, that's incredibly annoying.

However, if you haven't been in school for a while, or you aren't really sure of where you stand as a student, this might be a good buy. Not only does the text book go over things like how to study, how to manage time, and how to keep goals, but it also goes over things like suicide prevention, sexual health, and how to manage money.

Regardless, pretty much everyone whose buying this book is buying it because they have to, so none of the above really matters.

A great resource for adults returning to college.

I am returning to school in the fall, having been out for some time I feel that this text is going to be an invaluable resource. After skimming through the book, I have already stumbled across some great tips that I am anxious to dive into deeper. While it may seem annoying that you cannot rent this book or purchase a used one for the class you are taking, keep in mind that there are assignments in this book that you directly hand in to your professor. I chose the loose leaf version because it was MUCH cheaper than the bound paperback version. I purchased a 1" binder with a D-ring and it fit perfectly.

Why is this book so expensive?!

I am required to purchase this book for a class. I know there is no stopping the major textbook publishers from taking advantage of starving students by charging rapacious prices, but this book is published by the instructor. Has he no shame?! AND he publishes a "new" edition every year, so there is no buy-back and no used copies! Is he in education to educate or to make money at the detriment of his students?!

This workbook changed my life

I've read a lot about mastering money, improving my financial situation, and creating wealth. I've attended Landmark Education seminars on the subject (over $1000 spent), read books by T. Harv Eker (Secrets of a Millionaire Mind and Speedwealth), studied and the law of attraction and even became certified by Joe Vitale as a Law of Attraction Advanced Practitioner so that I could coach others.

I'm not going to lie, my financial life is still far from perfect - but I got more from this workbook with Morgana than everything above (thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours in education, books, and live training) put together.

It is totally true what she says on her blog - what happens with money is what happens in the rest of your life. This workbook will help you have major breakthroughs in your relationship with money, but those same breakthroughs will have impact far beyond your pocketbook.

I recommend it to anyone and everyone!

Morgana's Financial Alchemy Workbook Brings Magical Results-- Again and Again!

True alchemy begins with inner shifts and transformations on deep levels. Financial Alchemy offers clear and accessible tools for creating inner shifts around our money beliefs-- which are so connected to our beliefs about self worth and much more. This work is different, because it goes much deeper than the "getting information" level. It's really about creating dymanic inner change, that can bring about dymanic outer results. The Financial Alchemy Workbook is amazingly helpful, and designed so that as we work with it, we can also track our progress around change, and our results too. I've been sharing startling and happy results via e-mail with Morgana since I started working with Financial Alchemy over two years ago- so I'm happy to write this review and share with you some of what's happened for me. I'm well into my 2nd workbook at this time. Results came quickly. I'm going back into the my books to share some of the money manifestations, and overall postive changes in my sense of self. I do feel quite magical now in this work! I had wanted music work closer to home. I do children's concerts, which are wonderful to do, but travel is tiring after awhile. I also (love teaching) teach piano. I asked Money Honey for more students and a close to home and happy work place for teaching. I walked into a music school with a wonderful vibe, and was instantly hired. The school is a perfect fit for me. And though many apply there, I just "happened " to meet the owner at the right moment and it clicked instantly. And it's less than 1 mile from my home! I went in the first year from one student at my home studio to over 25 at the school. It is indeed the "right and perfect" place for me. My husband suddenly lost his high paying job and within a week we received an unexpected financial windfall of a lot of money-- enough to see us through a transitional year seemlessly. I'll always remember him saying "You'll never believe what came in the mail!" I laughed because I did believe it-- a great big check! I also asked Money Honey for higher paying concert work, and went form an average fee of $500, which is still very good, to just being booked for 45 minutes at $2,000. I asked Money Honey again for gifts and financial surprises from the Universe, and got a repeat $2000 booking, which came in ON MY BIRTHDAY! I really beleive in this work, and so am diligent in my use of the Financial Alchemy Workbook. I use it daily. One has to do the work, for it to work. There's definately magic in it, lots of playful synchronicity in the results, which I take as magic indicators. But it's not hokus pokus. You have to let Money Honey in, and let go of a lot of preconceptions. I've read spiritual-financial books for over 30 years. This one is the most on-target and useful book I've ever experienced. And of course, it's not just about money. Much of this was about healing my own inner doubts about worthiness. And healing that is the greatest gift there is. Thank you Morgana! My husband, after seeing 2 years of these results, is aksing for his own workbook!

A Love Affair Wtih Your Money Honey

Unlike every book I've ever read or seen on the subject of finance, wealth building or money management, FINANCIAL ALCHEMY reveals the one essential truth that we have a relationship with money! The author, Morgana Rae, refers to this relationship as our "money honey". Learning about our relationship with money is enough reason to read and use this superb workbook. Having heard her speak, I discovered Morgana has been through the fire of absolute financial despair and returned with a golden realization she shares with charm, passion and brilliant insights. Her teachings are presented in the effective format of a twelve month process. I strongly recommend learning about your relationship with money and the alchemical process to transform it. Like the title implies, FINANCIAL ALCHEMY is about permanent, almost miraculous change.

I want to highlight just one among the many gems, that fill the book. In Part One, page 15, using the metaphor of our relationship with money, (which of course is a reality), Morgana lists 16 "Money Dislikes". These are qualities, attitudes or actions that money doesn't like. And she is right on. Just that one list is worth the price and would have saved the 90% of lottery winners who end up broke within 2 years.

FINANCIAL ALCHEMY is not about investing wisely, managing your portfolio, getting into real estate or building a business. It is about the foundation we all need to have a successful, enduring love affair with our Money Honey. How much is that worth to you?

I've been a fan of Barbara Erskine's books since I first read Lady of Hay over twenty years ago. I wasn't over keen on her last book The Darkest Hour but feel she's back on track with this one.

Miranda, Andy to her friends, goes to stay in Sleeper's Castle to house sit for her friend Sue, who is going to Australia for a year. It comes at the perfect time for Andy as she has just lost her partner of ten years and also her home and possessions to her partner's ex-wife who appears to be slightly unhinged.

Staying at Sleeper's she meets lots of new friends. Ella and Roy run a bookshop in Hay, Sian is a friend of Sue's who lives nearby and Bryn is the gardener who comes and goes as he pleases and appears to be quite surly. Then we have the mysterious Meryn who is mentioned a lot but doesn't appear until half way through the book.

Andy is a sensitive person and can sense ghosts. When she stays in Sleeper's Castle she starts to 'time slip' in her dreams. She goes back to the time of uprising and revolution between Wales and England.

Here she encounters Catrin and her father Daffyd who live in Sleeper's centuries before. Their housekeeper, Joan and a young boy Peter also live there. Edmund, Joan's brother is called on to assist Catrin's father. He and Catrin fall in love but there are many obstacles in their path.

This book is all action. The happenings of the past and present combine. There are lots of factual people from the past in the story as well as the fictional characters. And let's not forget the mad ex-wife and a cat with a very supercilious expression.

This is a fantastic read. History abounds here and the fictional story is every bit as good. The writing is superb as usual. Be prepared for sleepless nights if you start this book. You won't be able to put it down.

Read in one go

As usual with Barbara Erskine's stories, the reader is catapulted back to a different time in history. This time it is back to the times of Owen Glendower and the wars for Wales's independence from the English. Switching back and forth from then to today we are immersed in intrigue, mystique, supernatural forces and true evil. Historically, the book is well researched and the town of Hay and its castle once more play a prominent part in this book as well as in the very well-known "Lady of Hay" by the same author.

i love the way she weaves plots between the past and present. Sleepers Castle is an excellent read! My only gripe is too few of her books are available on kindle in the US. All her books are available on kindle in the UK. Please redress this inequality!!

Robert J. Pugh is a Visiting Professor at Nottingham Trent University. He is an active member of the foams community and has almost twenty years' experience in industry, having worked as a foam specialist for Dow Chemicals and Unilever Research. He has also acted as a consultant for Argus Fire, Akzo Nobel, Nestl�, GlaxoSmithKline, Proctor and Gamble, and Arizona Chemicals. He has edited two previous books in the field of surface and colloid science, and authored several highly cited review papers on the topic of foams and foaming.

Grade 7 Up—"One minute the teacher was talking about the Civil War. And the next minute he was gone." Just vanished—along with everyone else over the age of 13 in a 20-mile radius around Perdido Beach, CA. The children left behind find themselves battling hunger, fear, and one another in a novel strongly reminiscent of William Golding's Lord of the Flies. Things go from bad to worse when some of the children begin exhibiting strange powers, animals show signs of freakish mutations, and people disappear as soon as they turn 14. Though an excellent premise for a novel, Gone suffers from a couple of problems. First, it is just too long. After opening with a bang, the initial 200 or so pages limp along before the action begins to really pick up. Secondly, based on the themes of violence, death, and implied sexual intimidation, this is clearly written for an older teen audience who may not appreciate the fact that no one in the book is older than 13. In spite of its faults, Gone is a gripping and gritty read with enough creepy gruesomeness to satisfy readers who have a taste for the macabre. to the whacked out powers the kids developed--I never knew what to expect and was constantly delighted with some fresh horror

This is one of the most imaginative dystopian-type books I've come across in a long time! In a small town called Perdido Beach, whose only real claim to fame is the nuclear power plant it is home to, everyone is going about their day when suddenly all the adults vanish. At first, you wonder if they were raptured or something. But then things start to get a bit strange--some of the kids develop powers, dangerous rivalries emerge, and there is a hint of some Darker Power at force here.

It reminded me a bit of Alexandra Bracken's Darkest Minds books, except without the oppressive grownups.

Grant was constantly surprising me with the creative twists he threw into the book. From talking coyotes to flying snakes, to the whacked out powers the kids developed--I never knew what to expect and was constantly delighted with some fresh horror.

That being said, I feel like I should have enjoyed reading this book more than I did. Not that I didn't enjoy it at all--I did--but it just wasn't the kind of all consuming page turner that it seems like it should have been. I kept reading a few pages at night before bed and then falling asleep. That shouldn't happen with this type of book--normally with a fast paced dystopian, I can't put it down til I reach the end.

I think the problem here is in the character development. None of these characters really felt very fully formed. They each have approximately one key trait: Sam is a leader; Astrid is a genius; Drake is an evil sadist; Little Pete is autistic; Quinn is insecure; Alberto is an entrepreneur, etc. etc. etc. The interpersonal drama just felt kind of forced and half baked. And for me, it doesn't matter how creative a world is or how tense the plot--if I can't really relate to the characters, I'm never going to be fully sucked in.

Still gotta give this points for creativity - it's really not like any other book I've come across lately. 3.5 stars.

Maybe the best series ever

This series was technically YA. Being 68 doesn't stop me from reading the good YA stuff despite it's penchant for romance. I thought that Gone was an excellent book. As the next book was released, I expected the "mid-series" weakness. Instead, I found that I liked the book even better. And so on through book 5, Fear which is even more adult and more breath-taking than it's predecessors.

In principle, I hate that authors can't seem to tell a story in 250 pages anymore and that everything is a trilogy or more. Fear has made me change my mind, now I'm living in Fear that the next book will be the final one and I wqon't be able to find anything as good to read.

I'm listing what I consider a few of my favorite books to give you a frame of reference for what I love. The tension, the pacing, the mind boggling imagination. If you liked these, you'll love this series. Let me add that the Gone series should be read in its correct order.

Dante’s 9 circles… pish-posh! Lord of the Flies... please! Oh my goodness! This book series is amazing in so many ways that you will not fully grasp until you are most of the way through it. What far a reaching and comprehensive look at the human spirit, at civilizations, at capitalism (love you Albert!), at survival, at war and its effects on our young adults, at true grit and character! I read this series along with one of my teens, and he was always slightly ahead of me (by about a book). And no matter how horrified I was he would assure me, “It’s going to get worse.” But how could it?!? And yet every time he was right!!! My depression and hopelessness set in on the third book and I had some trouble pushing through that one (that’s how he got ahead of me). But the 4th book picks up like a freight train and by the end (6th book) I was wishing there were a few more books in the series! What an honest look at the darker side of human nature too. This series does not pretty-up evil like they do in so many books now-a-days. These characters will be with me a long, long time. These books are not essentially “horror” stories… even though you will be truly horrified when you read them. They are too true to life for that. Just amazing. Brutal, honest, gritty, engrossing. And the science eventually plays out, if a little light handed… but sufficient for the story line.

Good but not like some of the mnemonics books

When studying for the SAT I remember using mnemonics books that would make learning English vocabulary fun and entertaining, by giving you catchy phrases or easy to remember pictures that would help to retain learned information. This book does not include any of that but is rather organized in a bit of dry fashion. It is, however, a good resource when viewed in company of other TOEFL products on the market - they all seem a bit dry and boring.

This book is well organized and gives the additional vocabulary practice that's hard to find. Simply
by doing TOEFL reading practice is not enough to remember the words you've encountered. The
only shortcoming is that the exercises are too obvious and simple. The examples and synonyms are
spot on, however.
