About the Author
Elizabeth Bell, a resident of Antigua for 46 years, was born in Burlingame, California, grew up in Palo Alto, and moved to Antigua Guatemala at the age of 14. She graduated from the University of San Carlos in Guatemala (1976) and attended graduate school at the University of Washington (ABT). She co-authored the first of her series of books on Antigua. Elizabeth managed the city of Antigua through the Consejo Nacional Para la Protecci�n de La Antigua Guatemala (1978-87) and received a certificate in Architectural Conservation at the International Centre for the Conservation and Preservation of Cultural Property (ICCROM) in Rome (1983) and a certificate in Heritage and Tourism from the Centro Nacional de Conservaci�n, Restauraci�n y Museolog�a in Havana (1997). With emphasis on professional cultural tourism in Antigua, Elizabeth has conducted cultural tours and given lectures since 1992 as well as organizing travel arrangements Her greatest joy, however, is researching the city. She received the Guatemalan government s highest award for her preservation efforts in Antigua the Gold Award Diego de Porres by the National Council for the Protection of La Antigua Guatemala on December 1st, 2011 for her tireless efforts during 42 years in providing useful information about La Antigua Guatemala through her multiple books and lectures and her constant efforts in the preservation of the City and its Cultural Heritage .
